FDA does not pre-approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness
FDA states that dietary supplements generally do not go through the same premarket approval process as drugs. Companies are responsible for meeting applicable safety, labeling and manufacturing requirements, while FDA oversight includes inspections, monitoring and enforcement.
Facility registration is not product approval
A statement about an FDA-registered or inspected facility should not be rewritten as “the supplement is FDA approved.” Registration and compliance activities describe the facility or regulatory framework; they do not establish that FDA evaluated the supplement and endorsed its effectiveness.
